Brooklyn is getting its first branded residence. The former Hotel Bossert at 98 Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights is being transformed into The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Brooklyn Heights, bringing 62 condominiums, Ritz-Carlton services and a new restaurant to one of the neighborhood's most recognizable buildings.
New renderings released this month show the restored Renaissance Revival exterior including its sculpted granite and limestone base, arched windows and detailed stonework. Construction has begun and completion is targeted for 2029.
For Brooklyn Heights, the project is significant not only because of the Ritz-Carlton name, but because of what it adds to a neighborhood where larger condominium residences are relatively limited.
The Bossert has been part of Brooklyn Heights since 1909, when it opened as a grand hotel. It later served as housing for the Jehovah's Witnesses. After years of vacancy and several unsuccessful attempts to revive the property, it is now entering a new chapter.
SomeraRoad, a firm founded by Brooklyn Heights resident Ian Ross, acquired the building out of foreclosure in 2025 for $100 million and is leading the redevelopment with Marriott International.
The 62 residences will include a mix of two to five bedroom homes, along with a 24-hour attended lobby, wellness amenities and Ritz-Carlton services. A ground-floor restaurant from Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group will also bring a new addition to Montague Street.
With so much on offer, I'm looking forward to visiting the sales gallery in October. I think the larger units are going to be of particular interest because of the rarity of full-service, pre-war luxury condos with amenities in Brooklyn. Please be in touch with me if you're interested in visiting this property.
